Saturdays and dead cars
This past Saturday morning, I was sitting in my bedroom, just starting to get ready for work and watching whatever happened to be on television. All in all, a very typical Saturday morning. That was until about 8 a.m. when I heard a very loud BAM come from outside the front of the house. I came running out and found a man driving a Ford pickup who apparently forgot that he was driving a car – he says he was distracted by his cell phone – had slammed into the back of my car, which was innocently parked in front of my house, minding its own business.
Well – you can imagine what a wrench this has thrown into my life. I’m at least several weeks away from having all of the insurance issues resolved yet I find myself obessively looking through online auto sites to see what kind of car I’m going to be able to afford. God knows I can’t afford much.
I’m just thankful that I have the scooter and am praying the weather here in Colorado stays pleasant for awhile. Otherwise I’m going to have to move faster on the car search. I don’t think they make studded snow tires for the scooter and I’m not sure how much fun it would be trying to ride it during a snow storm Could be interesting though and maybe I’d even make it onto You Tube’s top playlist.
"Dead and Gone" Charlaine Harris' ninth book in her Sookie Stackhouse southern vampire mysteries.

The photos are awful, Shari! I keep thinking what could have happened had you been in the car. I am so glad you were not. Your story has also made me reconsider how I use my cell phone in the car. More on that later.
October 3rd, 2008 at 7:51 pmWe live in a historic district w/ few garages so all have to park on the street. About 8 years ago, at 2+ a.m. (right after the bars close), a hit-and-run driver plowed into the back of my car, which them plowed into the back of my husband’s truck. When the police tracked down the ragged-looking young perpetrator (at his house a block away the next morning), he still reeked of alcohol. He said to the officer, “I didn’t want to wake anyone up.” She fixed a bright, sober smile on him and said, “You can call us. We’re ALWAYS awake!” His insurance company paid fully for the repair of both vehicles — of course.
October 24th, 2008 at 2:54 pmOh dear, oh dear. I do hate these kinds of things…random acts that lead you to lots of work and hassles that you did nothing to deserve. I hope that it works out okay for you and that you don’t lose too much time and energy to its resolution.
What a blessing that no one was hurt. If the driver had plowed into a bicyclist or child playing ball…but he didn’t…again, what a blessing.
All good wishes to you,
Anne
